Howard "Howdy" Emerson
With degrees in drafting and art, this local artist and musician has painted landscapes and played his harp here for years. Love of the moods and beauty of our coast is obvious in his oil paintings. Howdy is artist in residence at the Westhaven Center for the Arts, painting on Fridays from 1 – 4pm.
Celtic harper and TAG member artist, Howdy has for many years graced Humboldt County venues with the enchanting bell-like tone of the wire strung Celtic harp. The wire harp is unique in sound, ancient in origin, and still rarely played. |
Howdy worked for several years as a therapeutic musician in West Virginia and was influenced by Appalachia and the musicians and patients he encountered there and now includes a few folk tunes and some old gospel with his Celtic aires and original pieces. Having started his musical career with guitar in the 60’s folk era, he may also play or sing songs recalled from that time, adapting them to the harp. Howdy offers a truly enjoyable, varied, and sometimes peaceful musical experience.
