Loryn White
"I am a potter living and making pots on the North Coast. I make both wheel-thrown and hand built functional pottery in my little home studio in McKinleyville California. I also live with my amazingly supportive husband, wonderful daughter, six bantam chickens, and a new little pup named Tule. When not making pottery I enjoy playing outside in our beautiful surroundings with my family.
"I have been pursuing ceramics now for close to 20 years. It seems like just yesterday I was in college at Humboldt State University getting a degree in Fisheries Biology and preparing for a totally different life. |
"I only spent five years after college working in the Fisheries field, but the experience influences me and my pottery to this day. The sound, sight and feel of flowing water has truly been the greatest inspiration for my work. As a child, I also spent a great deal of time in and near the Pacific Ocean in San Diego which I believe also works its way into my pottery. "Lately I find myself really drawn to porcelain slip work. Every time I begin to play with the porcelain slip, I am taken back to my childhood sitting near the ocean making sand castles.
"My life as a potter has given me ongoing purpose and direction that I don’t think I could have gotten from any other career. I feel like my work is a series of breadcrumbs leading me down a path that always keeps me entertained, hopeful and on my toes.
