Mara Friedman
“Always these questions call… how can we more deeply connect to the profound power of our Mother Earth and know Her power as our own? How can we more fully trust the beauty in our heart and express our unique gifts as powerful acts of healing for ourselves and others?
Over and again, I dive within the ocean of soul, and hope to rise from its fertile depths with image-pearls that reflect the universal journey of life.” A practicing artist for over three decades, Mara’s richly colored acrylic paintings celebrate the grace of the sacred Feminine. Her imagery draws inspiration from archetypal symbols, multi-cultural artforms and the deep wisdom of Nature. Her painting process is this: growing out of one of her hundreds of ‘doodles’… a simple line drawing slowly develops into a many layered dance of color and pattern. These days, she loves to create musical mosaics composed of elk women and whales, hummingbirds and stars, dots, dashes, squiggles and swirls. |
In 1994 Mara founded New Moon Visions, which publishes and sells artgifts (cards, prints, books, etc.) featuring her images. In 1999, she co-founded STREAM (Sisters Together Rejoicing in Expressive Arts and Magic), an art school dedicated to the nurturance of sacred creative play. Teaching has been an important aspect of the artists’ life, balancing the solitary passion of creating art with the joy of sharing with community. Over the course of her career, her work has been featured on book, magazine and CD covers, murals, logos, posters and more.
Life’s circular path has led her from Southern California to Hawaii, Oregon and now back to California’s beautiful Trinidad. Here, ocean song and shimmer, magical mists, ancient redwoods and abundant wildlife are igniting a new series of work… visual prayers for our precious planet.
