Elaine Y. Shore & Barbara WrightFeatured Artists for August 2017 Opening Reception: Friday, August 4th 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Music by Margaret Kellerman Elaine Y. Shore specializes in creating what she calls "functional art for every day." Her signature pieces--black and white, hand carved mugs and bowls--are her original designs. After throwing and trimming her work, she applies a black liquid clay ("slip") to the surface. She then carves her designs through the black slip, into the white porcelain, creating striking black and white designs of birds, flowers and animals. The pieces are then fired to harden the clay and finally a shear glaze is applied and the pieces are fired again, this time to 2,340°F. She has recently begun to use color to create lively new designs as well. Barbara Wright's mosaics are piece by piece creations that come from color schemes or a visual image she has from her environment or her imagination. The spontaneity of each piece creates a surprise when completed. The fused glass work is an abstract arrangement of glass, both plain and dichroic, which is slumped in a kiln, cut in patterns and slumped again, ending up with the various jewelry pieces. She is basically an abstract artist, working with many materials to create each piece, whether it be a mosaic or a piece of jewelry.

Jeffries Lida Penkova: "Most of those who know my art are familiar with my hand painted linocuts: the complex and very enjoyable process of drawing, carving, printing, and finally making a painting from a black & white print. For this showing I'll add larger painting canvases, some with incorporated fabrics, another passion of mine." Trinidad Art Gallery is a Hot Spot for |

Colleen Clifford and Oceana Madrone
Colleen Clifford: "Glass is a fragile yet sensuous material, and I enjoy making art that can play off these elements. Designing a piece takes the creativity, concentration, and dedication that any art medium demands, and I am both challenged and inspired during this process. When the piece moves to the construction phase, I love to feel the creative force of art bonding with the traditional, mechanical craft of stained glass production. I strive to balance a piece with pleasing composition, color, and texture."

Kathy O'Leary and Patty Demant
Kathy O'Leary: "My new work shows a selection of en plein air (on location) and studio pieces painted from my photographs. While I continue to paint our local scenery I am expanding my focus to include the oak woodland areas of our local hills and ranch lands as well as other areas of Northern California. During this coming year I will be traveling extensively to paint and photograph this wonderful iconic tree of our state."
Patty was introduced to the method of Eco Printing by fiber artist India Flint. She fell in love with the process and will never look at another leaf again without wondering how it will print.
Diane Sonderegger and Donvieve
In the words of Diane Sonderegger: "Most people know me for my humorous animal figures and there are plenty of those in the gallery. But I wanted to show that I have done other more serious and complex pieces and some of those are featured this month. I hope you all enjoy looking at my work as much as I enjoy making it. Every day in the studio is a privilege and a pleasure."
"Multi-dimensional artist/educator' creates masks that reach across our personal barriers and speak to the landscape of our beings. Each piece tenderly touches areas of inner strength, introspection, and that secret place of dreams that lies within each of us.
Susan Mayclin Stephenson
Susan’s first book, The Joyful Child: Montessori, Global Wisdom for Birth to Three, has been translated into Portuguese, Japanese, and Vietnamese, and more translations are in progress. It has been used as the text for an online parenting course in Japan and has reached parents in hundreds of villages in Vietnam where families who live in poverty are learning, even with no material support, to support the best development of their children. The Arabic translation, still in progress, is already helping children in orphanages in Morocco.
Oil paintings and prints by Susan Mayclin Stephenson hang in homes all over the world, from Bhutan to Australia, from Holland to Japan. She has exhibited at the Morris Graves Museum, has been awarded Best of Show for the Redwood Art Association and has had two solo shows at the Westhaven Center for the Arts.
