Kathy O'Leary and Patty Demant Featured Artists for March 2017 Kathy O'Leary: "My new work shows a selection of en plein air (on location) and studio pieces painted from my photographs. While I continue to paint our local scenery I am expanding my focus to include the oak woodland areas of our local hills and ranch lands as well as other areas of Northern California. During this coming year I will be traveling extensively to paint and photograph this wonderful iconic tree of our state." Patty Demant: "The process of Eco Printing on natural fabrics such as silk, wool, and cashmere, is a multi-step, two to three day event. Leaves such as eucalyptus, alder, maple, oak, and black walnut, are placed on the fabric in a random or symmetrical pattern. Then the fabric is wrapped around a copper pipe, and bound with string. The next step requires a pot full of elements (i.e. iron) that serve as mordants. These bundles are simmered for two hours, removed, cooled, and opened the next day to reveal earthy tones of beautiful leaf designs."
Patty was introduced to the method of Eco Printing by fiber artist India Flint. She fell in love with the process and will never look at another leaf again without wondering how it will print.
